The coming New Moon on Saturday, August 23, 2:06am ET, at 0°22’ Virgo, is the first of two consecutive Virgo New Moons. This not so common occurrence, of two New Moons in the same sign back to back and its meaning, is interesting to contemplate. While I have not documented experience or meaning of this pattern, the energy of a New Moon combined with Virgo gives us plenty to feel into. On top of this double Virgo New Moon is the addition of the approaching Eclipse Season which begins with a Lunar Eclipse at 15°22’ Pisces on September 7th. The second Virgo New Moon will be an eclipse at 29°05’ Virgo on September 21st at 3:54pm ET, just 24 hours before the exact equinox point! More on this in my next New Moon article!
Life Is Moving In Cycles
The skies at the moment of the New Moon sets the tone for the coming lunar cycle. A New Moon is a reminder that life is constantly moving in cycles. This point in the cycle offers us an opportunity to lean into a new beginning. Virgo, of all the signs, delights in cycles, in rhythm, in pattern. Because of this, Virgo connects to creating sacred space for ceremonializing these rhythms and cycles. So, with two Virgo New Moons coming up, bringing in ritual and routine, ceremony and sacred space over the next two lunar cycles, there is a worthy focus as we navigate through Eclipse Season and into the Libra Equinox.
Unanswerable Question
The New Moon on Saturday is in a square to Uranus at 1°22’ Gemini, just 1° of separation from an exact square. This tight aspect could be recognized as a heads up; the wild and free Uranus in Gemini will continue to do its thing. Can we work with earthy, grounded and devoted Virgo in our sacred practices so that we can hold our center when unpredictable and unexpected events present themselves? For me this particular aspect is a deep invitation to slow down, act with purpose, care and intention. Prioritising self-care, routine and the creation of sacred space for myself feels like the perfect antidote to a world that seems to be desperate to ‘figure it all out’ and specifically ‘what’s going to happen?!’. This unsolvable and truly unanswerable question will surely lead us into suffering as we cling to needing to know. What would happen if we let go of this quest and instead inquired into how these Virgoan qualities could support us in our lives these next 2 ‘moonths’?
Venus In A Vulnerable Place
Venus, on this New Moon day is at 27°06 Cancer. She just crossed her 5th Descending Gate (Solar Plexus Chakra) in the Pisces overstory on Wednesday August 20th. This gate relates to our personal power and our ability to say ‘No’. On August 22nd Chiron will square Venus in this vulnerable place introducing the energy of this healing centaur. Perhaps we will be given the chance to face our fear of rejection, insecurities, low self-esteem or even our desire to dominate others in ways that we can more actively work with the material and learn ways to release these patterns. This is more potent for those in their Venus return cycle (every 8 years) and still can be felt and worked with through all of us even if we are not in our Venus return.
Perfect Opportunity For The Inner Masculine
Meanwhile, Mars approaches the 5th conjunction with the moon in Phase 2 of his Cancer overstory. Mars is learning and growing, now in Libra at 10°16’. What can we notice in our own lives as Mars, the sacred masculine in us all, grows and learns about nurturing and creating safe space? It feels like quite a different story for Venus, our inner sacred feminine, as she descends further down through the chakras on her way to the underworld for ultimate surrender and composting. Perhaps this offers the perfect opportunity for the inner masculine to practice supporting and holding the inner feminine in this raw and tender place in a new way?
The Saturn-Neptune Combo
Saturn and Neptune continue to sit close together, not conjoining exactly until February 2026. Until then we can continue to honor them for their teachings which I went into more deeply in my last New Moon article.
Harmonious Trine
Lastly Pluto (1°56 Aquarius) and Uranus (1°22’ Gemini) two powerfully transformative outer planets, dance together in a harmonious trine which continues on through 2027. This trine is tighter now than it has been for a while and speaks to some supportive energy working times that feel unstable and challenging for many. I see the present harmony between these two big planetary players in air signs as a welcome thread connecting the celestial and underworlds in a way that could bring balance and a pathway for communication between these realms. This is something worth exploring in much more depth if both of these planets are aspecting your chart personally at this time.
Motion and Change
2025 continues to feel like a year of motion and change and this does not look to slow down astrologically for the rest of the year. May we sail onward into Eclipse Season and the Libra Equinox heeding the teachings of two Virgo Moons that want to root us into ritual and encourage us to rock in rhythm with the cycles of nature.
