This heralds to be quite an eventful week!
Mars joins Jupiter, Mars squares Saturn, and Jupiter’s first of three squares to Saturn follows soon.
Let’s break it down.
Mars Aligns with Jupiter
On the heels of last month’s potent Mars-Uranus conjunction comes the anticipated conjunction of Mars with Jupiter, exact 8:22am PDT on Wednesday, August 14, at 16Gemini40. This is quite prominent and easily visible in the morning sky from about 1:00am until dawn. Mars will be only 0.19degrees to the upper left of far brighter Jupiter. It’s their closest conjunction since 2015, and there isn’t another one closer than this until 2033.
Jupiter amplifies Mars and Mars activates Jupiter. There can be much hope and optimism associated with this, especially if Mars is conceived as a symbol beyond the confines of it’s patriarchal/Hellenistic associations with war and aggression. However, the square to Saturn must also be taken into consideration.
Mars Squares Saturn
On Thursday, August 15, 10:30pm PDT, Mars squares Saturn at 17Gemini43. Using the language of Rudhyar, squares represent times of “crisis in action”. They are event-oriented, designed to elicit a response. The question is: What will the response be? Looked at it from the Mars and Saturn understandings of recent patriarchal times, this is a difficult stellar omen indeed. With Chiron in Aries, may we suggest an attitude of non-compliance, while not getting involved in “fight” or conflict. It’s time to abandon the “eye for an eye” approach that has dominated the last 6000 years. This is not passivity but an active and assertive non-compliance.
It is also interesting that August 15 is the Catholic and Orthodox “Feast of the Assumption” of the Virgin Mary to heaven. 5000 years ago, this was when Spica (Venus’s stellar stand-in) was conjunct the Sun. Precession has changed this, but this date has often been used for high ceremony, for good or ill.
These events of August 14-15 are happening with the added spice of an extreme out-of-bounds Sagittarius and Capricorn Moon traversing the Galactic Center zone, certainly adding even more intensity and surrender into the mix. What needs composting will get composted!
United States Mars Fully Activated
The US natal Mars sits at 21Gemini22 (with a square to Neptune). I have written and spoken to this often. Mars will cross this degree on August 21, followed by Jupiter in October at its retrograde degree within 2 minutes. Even more dramatic events can be anticipated for the United States as so much is on the line. It is worth noting that Kamala Harris’ ASC is 24Gemini. I will go more into this during the upcoming September Equinox Seminars.
Jupiter Square Saturn Follows Soon
The first of three Jupiter-Saturn squares happens August 19 at 2:46pm PDT with Jupiter at 17Gemini27 and Saturn at 17Pisces27. Surely, this accentuates the Mars/Jupiter process even more. Often, Jupiter in aspects with Saturn can be quite useful for availability of resources – or experiencing the lack thereof! – but it all depends on the intent of actions taken. It can only be hoped that the traditional war version of Mars with be thwarted by Saturn.
