The Libra New Moon is exact at 8:25am (ET) on Tuesday, October 21. At 28°21’ Libra, this New Moon has the signature of an ending within a beginning. The turn of seasons last month felt like a deep reset for many, where our attention was brought to that which no longer can be ignored. The double Virgo New Moons in September reminded us to slow down, pay attention to the details and enter into each day with more intentionality, reverence and honoring. Since then, the energy of Libra has been calling us into Right Relationship, or perhaps the quest for this, starting with those who are right around you. Libra teaches balance, reciprocity and the ability to recognize ourselves in a mirror of The Other.

Maintain Equanimity
This New Moon, at the very end of the sign, is asking us to maintain equanimity while, in the Northern Hemisphere, we witness the powerful metaphorical Death that is Autumn. It is a time to open our hearts to others and find ways to communicate lovingly and with discernment. This is especially important in relation to those we spend a lot of time around, as we prepare to enter the cave of winter where we may be spending even more time together through the darker season.
How can we connect with one another in a way that includes validation and honors our own experience? Can we meet one another with an open heart and the intention for repair, restoration and deepening in connection? This feels like a worthy realm of exploration during this New Moon time. In the Tarot, Libra is associated with the Justice card which is connected to Venus and to the heart chakra. Indeed, the heart is essential in all that we do now.
Awareness to The Root Chakra
Venus entered the sign of Libra on October 13 and on October 19 will move into the 7th descending gate on her pathway to the underworld. This gate is associated with the root chakra. Venus is currently in a 19-month long journey in the Pisces Overstory. Since Venus feels so connected to this New Moon through being in Libra now and also in having correspondences with Libra in general, she is worthy of our attention at this time. She will move through this 7th gate, reaching her 8th gate on November 18, just one day before the next New Moon. This entire lunation is a time to bring our awareness to the root chakra in association with the inner Sacred Feminine in all of us and perhaps fold this into the themes already presented above. It feels like tender times that will require patience and well held spaces for it all to move.
Power Used Well
Meanwhile, on this New Moon day, Mercury, still in the Leo Overstory through November 29th, is conjunct Mars, now approaching the end of his ‘Questing Phase’ in the Cancer Overstory. This conjunction at the 21st degree of Scorpio is perfectly placed for enhancing deep conversations, connections and the ability to go there. Scorpio has the potential to take us into our deepest fears and face shadowy aspects. It can also enhance power and intensity; May that power be used well and with the clear intention that it is all for the highest good. We can hope that the ‘matured’ version of Mercury and Mars, due to where they are now in their synodic cycles, help facilitate this.
Additionally, it is interesting to note that Mercury will be at the same degree it will be at when it turns direct at the end of the coming retrograde cycle (Nov 9-29). This said, it can be worth noting that this New Moon marks the beginning of a period of time where Mercury will be journeying across an area of sky that it will traverse another two times in the next couple of months, not going into new territory until Dec 17. This adds another layer of meaning and symbolism to this period of time which includes a non-linear nature, which feels resonant with the coming Scorpio season. The Sun enters Scorpio the day after the New Moon, on Oct 22.
Get Intimate
Saturn and Neptune have loosened in their conjunction for now, and for this New Moon Saturn will be in a harmonious trine to Mars and Mercury. This supportive energy could be some added grace to go with these repeated invitations to get intimate with ourselves and others this season. Perhaps Saturn and Neptune in their long term conjunction, already transmitted some powerful initiatory energy to us regarding really ‘being with’ intense feelings and emotions.
Chiron in opposition to this New Moon point is a symbol of the opportunity for healing to happen during this lunation. Chiron is shining its light on the Libra Moon letting us know that, in all of what has been shared here, Chiron’s wisdom and healing frequency is present and ready to offer what is needed should we choose to go there.
Beckoned Into Balance
We are being beckoned into balance. It is time to find a different relationship with the intensity that is all around in our personal lives and the lives of those we love as well as the world at large. We are learning how to hold the grief, the sorrow as well as the joy and the hope all at once and all together. May we continue to find new ways to be supported by our community while also supporting others. It is much like a dance – being brave enough to share the heavy weight of what we are facing while also discovering our own capacity to be there for others too in this powerful time of transformation and awakening.
