Sagittarius New Moon: The Medicine of Patience

by Susan DeRyder | Dec 16, 2025 |

The Sagittarius New Moon is exact December 19 at 8:43pm ET/ 5:43pm PT at 28°24’. This moon features what appears to be a clear set of instructions and yet this moon is so outside of the ‘middle world’, featuring potent celestial and underworld themes, that it is more likely it will only make sense in retrospect. This moon, and the coming Solstice point the following day, require deep trust and surrender to the Great Mystery-ing unfolding. I refer to ‘Great Mystery’ here, as a verb. It was pointed out to me in recent years by a dear elder friend connected to the Lakota Sun Dance, that this is indeed what it is and always was; constantly in motion, mystery-ing, becoming.

The chart shared here is for Giza, Egypt, where the New Moon is exact December 20th at 3:43am. Research suggests that the meridian of the Great Pyramid is the original prime meridian of our planet and performs the same function which Greenwich performs today. TOTAMS recently began setting event charts such as New and Full Moons to the time of Giza as the ‘original’ Prime Meridian. You can find out more about this topic by watching DAniel’s Founder’s Vlog Rethinking The Prime Meridian.

Surrender Fully And Completely

At this time, Galactic Centre (as it sounds, the centre of our Galaxy), is at 27°12’ Sagittarius. That means this New Moon is just 1°12’ away from that point. Galactic Centre (GC) doesn’t feel to me to be a place where we can work with intellectual strategy or logic. This is a place that holds great importance in ancient cosmologies from around the world for time immemorial. As Daniel Giamario mentions in this article:

It can either be seen as a composting area, where a surrender to all that has become obsolete is deposited, OR as a place of ascension where a realized “free soul” sojourns to other unknown realms.”

Perhaps what is needed most this coming weekend is that we all lean into the teachings transmitted to us over the past many months from Saturn and Neptune, who are now in a square to this New Moon. Surrender fully and completely to not knowing so that what is waiting to come through has a clear passage, a channel to stream through. Let the square to Saturn remind us of the need for integrity in every sense of the word. We can step up to our responsibility now to be custodians of the Earth as we traverse the massive transformation happening (mystery-ing) while also trusting a higher purpose, the broader view. My feeling is these words might feel more resonant once we’re actually standing in the center of all this come this weekend, or more so after the fact! The question is, can we be there for it fully and completely?

Venus

Meanwhile, Venus is not far away. Now fully in the Inanna Underworld, her initiation is underway and along with the Sun/Moon, she is swept into a square Saturn Neptune. At 24°11’ Sagittarius, she too is approaching GC and will cross that point December 22. Mars already made his pass December 10 and has now moved on into Capricorn. Still, the Mars-Venus Underworld Saga (as mentioned in Daniels article) is also clearly woven into this New Moon/Solstice weekend.

Chiron

The other key player (pun intended) in this New Moon chart is Chiron. Here at 22°41’ Aries, Chiron is trine Venus and New Moon. This flowing, harmonious energy may go unnoticed while we are ‘in it’ and yet it feels so important and complimentary to the rest of the potential inner-work that may be happening. Chiron in Aries asks “who am I in all of this?” and offers to assist in the healing needed to step into your soul-purpose based on the highest, most authentic version of that ‘I’ within the whole.

The Medicine of Patience

As we in the Northern Hemisphere now approach the cave of Winter, this perfectly synchronised New Moon and Winter Solstice weekend feels like a pure gift. Looking ahead to 2026, the astrological forecast (as well as predictions from many other systems and perspectives) looks to be a major gear shift and plenty of forward motion, after the February 20 Saturn/Neptune conjunction and even more so looking ahead to the March 20 Equinox point. Right now, I am taking the medicine of the current curriculum to be patient. It is time to rest. It is time to simply listen. To be receptive. To open our hearts, hands and channels to the creative flow of the divine. May it be so!

New Moon and Winter Solstice blessings to all!
