Sagittarius New Moon: The Glowing Light of Truth

by Susan DeRyder | Nov 28, 2024 |

The Sagittarius Moon is seeded at 9°32″ at 10:21pm November 30th PT / 1:21am December 1st ET. For those of us in North America, a New Moon like this one, exact in the middle of the night, feels like an extra potent point to seed our intentions. The New Moon time offers us darker skies and thus the inclination to move more naturally into our ‘down and inward’ state.

How then can we integrate a sign like Sagittarius, which is about expanding our vision and more evolutionary in nature, with a season that is pointing in the direction of involution? For me, this is an invitation to point the Sagittarian arrow of truth towards ourselves. At the exact moment of New Moon we will be just 20 days from the Winter Solstice point, a time when our deepest dreamings for a new cycle will be planted. There is no question, we in the Northern Hemisphere are being called into the cave, to pause, to reflect on what worked and what did not at this time of year. This New Moon is a welcome preliminary check-in with the Self before we reach the longest night on December 21st. Let us take a look at the other transits at play with this New Moon and explore how we might participate in this cycle for the highest good.

The Pluto and Mars Dance

As I mentioned in the last New Moon article, Pluto and Mars continue to dance in and out of opposition. I presented this opposition as an opportunity for transformation of the masculine in all of us, on the deepest level. It could nudge us to ask ourselves, “In what way am I out of alignment?” as opposed to pointing outside of ourselves to say “The patriarchy and all of its shadowy aspects is his/their fault”.  From here we can begin to take responsibility for the world we find ourselves in and the potential changes we would like to see.

But first, the shadow must be illuminated! While still opposing Pluto, Mars is trining this New Moon, bringing flowing and harmonious energy to the conversation. Could it be that in the dark night of the Sagittarius New Moon we discover that tiny ember, that glowing light of truth within ourselves that says “Yes, I do play a part in this. And yes, I have the ability to make a change. It starts with me. It starts with me looking at my inner truth.”

Mars is about to go retrograde on December 6. This marks the final stage before he steps into his new overstory cycle on January 15 2025 in the sign of Cancer. This trine to the New Moon is a reminder to Mars before he ‘begins again’ that there is always room for refinement.

Asking The Right Questions

Meanwhile Saturn squaring this New Moon point is still in a square dance with Jupiter. This aspect is calling in the continued unfolding of what it means to be in this ongoing process of expansion (Jupiter) and contraction (Saturn). Anyone with planets, points or angles close the the degrees Saturn and Jupiter are working through right now, will know what I am talking about on a deeply personal level.

Just when we think all the doors are open (Jupiter) Saturn, like a true elder, offers perspective; “Yes, and” … “now take some time to integrate all of that”. Saturn reminds us to bring any expansion down to Earth, making sure we have considered any flaws in the plan as well as the long term effects. With this being said, Saturn may be adding a level of seriousness to this Moon which could facilitate the perfect conditions for us accessing to our innate wisdom where we ask the right questions and do not move too fast.

Take Firm Plans With a Pinch of Salt

Riding off the back of this theme of slowing our forward motion, I can’t help but notice Mercury Retrograde who, for me, always reminds me to take firm plans with a pinch of salt! These are non-linear times. The more we can embrace Retrograde Mercury as an opportune time to see things from a more fluid perspective we actually open up space for an even better plan to reveal itself to us. Mercury will move on later in the day of the New Moon and reach within 10° of the Sun, this is the period of time that Mercury becomes invisible to us from Earth in it’s underworld phase. The potential to gain insights from outside of our current reality or way of seeing will be amplified. Again, with this all being in the sign of Sagittarius the way is open for a completely new perspective to come in which ultimately points us back to Truth again and again.

Venus’ Final Days at The Heart Chakra

At the time of this New Moon, Venus will be just 3 days from the 5th gate; the throat chakra in her current synodic cycle in the Leo overstory. She will also be tightening her conjunction to Pluto. While this is a whole other story worth an entire inquiry in itself, it is important to highlight it here as Uranus is in trine to Venus on this New Moon chart. Venus is in her process of rebuilding after a long and intense journey through the underworld earlier this year. These final days at the heart chakra could be some of the most tender days in the process. As she prepares to bring her voice back (the throat chakra) Uranus is offering some help. Perhaps the trine will make integrating whatever changes have to be made a little easier to trust and lean into. Whatever preparatory work can be done here is sure to support the coming 5th gate and reintegrating her voice before moving onward to the upper chakras of higher vision and consciousness.

May this New Moon be an opportunity for us all to uncover new levels of inner truth and may those truths continue to be in service to the potential of the highest expression of all and for the greater good.
