Two astro events have my attention this week. One is brilliantly visible and the other, possibly every bit as significant, may not be easily seen at all. Involved are Venus, Mars, and often neglected Mercury.
Moon Aligns with Venus at the Seventh Descent Gate
The Moon aligns with Venus at 11:26AM PDT on Sunday, October 19, at 7°18’Libra, about 19 degrees from the Sun in the morning sky. Venus is still bright and easily seen at the onset of dawn. This will be a beautiful sight on Monday morning in the Americas.
This Venus gate or portal corresponds to the first chakra, the place where Venus-Inanna is required to relinquish her attachment to her life, as a final step to be allowed to enter the underworld and authentically grieve the ending of an age. This is a shamanic death portal. Everyone’s survival issues are up to experience and deal with!
Intriguing is that Venus and the Moon are with the stars of the Priestess Constellation, even more specifically, some of the Priestess’s most important stars, namely Zaniah, Porrima, and Vindemiatrix, the stars of sacred sexuality, prophecy, and sacred medicine. As important as these realms have been to the pre-patriarchal Sacred Feminine, none of them can override the essential call for surrender. Though calling on them might possibly be an aid. Nearby are also the stars of the Raven-Crow, the Priestess’s familiar companion.
With Venus in her Pisces Overstory, it feels imperative for the Sacred Feminine in both women and men to trust in this surrender to our Holy Mother, and to be open to receive her Mercy and Grace, as the descent to the underworld accelerates. Venus enters the underworld on November 25, after passing the rare eighth gate, the gate of “death by intent”, the previous week. During this crucial part of her journey, she will pass through the stars of the Scales, where the Heart is tested as to whether it is as light as a feather!
Mercury Aligns with Mars
Mercury aligns with Mars at 11:52PM PDT, also on Sunday, October 19, at 19°11’Scorpio, about 22 degrees from the Sun. Mars, equally on his way to the exterior underworld from the evening sky, has been hard to see for many weeks now as he is far from Earth and Sun. In December, he will meet with Venus in the exterior underworld, coming within 10 degrees of each other. Before uniting with the Sun in January of 2026, both Venus and Mars will pass by the Galactic Center. This pattern, which TOTAMS refers to as the Underworld Saga, has not happened in the same way for 32 years!
Mars’ meetup with Mercury is the first of two before Mars enters the underworld on November 13. The second encounter at 6°02’Sagittarius is on November 12. As Mars is just now passing through the balance beam of the Scales on his way to the Scorpion, these two alignments between him and Mercury seem quite important. The Scorpion constellation is the guardian and gateway to the Golden Gate, the Galactic Center.
So what is the counsel that Mercury is imparting to Mars? Mars is in his Cancer Overstory and Mercury in Scorpio is at the apex of his knowledge and wisdom, nearing the end of the Leo Overstory. Our prayer is that Mercury can help to prepare Mars, for both men and women, to take on the great task, through his surrender, to revision the Cancer Mystery School, taking it beyond tribalism, clannishness, and blood feuds, and instead expand his capacity for love and instill the ability to provide love and nourishment to all of global humanity, to truly serve the people, the community, and all sentient beings!
