This week’s astro update began with a deeply transformative Virgo New Moon on September 2 and ends with a Sagittarius Second Quarter Moon very late on Tuesday, September 10. Here are the highlights (all times in PDT).
Monday, September 2
The Moon and Sun met at 11 Virgo 04 (exact at 6:56pm PDT), encouraging us to gather the essence of the sparky Leo insights we have gained over this past month, as we take a deep breath, and prepare for quieter energies to emerge. Time to consult our own inner wisdom, in harmony with the currents of the natural world, as we set our New Moon intentions for the month to come, enhanced by Virgo’s deeply ceremonial energies.
Meanwhile, we have yet another reminder of the deep currents of change upon us now at this fulcrum point of the Turning of The Ages, as two of the outer planet titans are reaching significant milestones, exact on September 1. Evolutionary Uranus stationed retrograde in the morning at 27 Taurus 15, followed by retrograde Pluto moving back into Capricorn late in the evening. These are timings that will continue to reverberate for some time to come.
Pluto, the great composter, is making one final pass through the last half a degree of pragmatic Capricorn, before turning direct and again entering Aquarius on November 20 where it will stay until 2043. Expect more unearthing of what isn’t working in the old systems, as we prepare to envision a whole new operating manual. The deeper we can go with the decomposition process in these critical final days and months, the richer the soil will be for our individual and collective seeding of New Earth paradigms.
Tuesday, September 3
Mercury is visible all week, low on the eastern horizon in the early morning twilight sky. Now in the Apollo phase of its 109-day Leo overstory synodic cycle, it will reach maximum elongation from the Sun on Thursday. This is the best Northern Hemisphere apparition of Mercury for the entire year, also visible in the Southern Hemisphere. Mercury will continue to brighten, before disappearing into the glare of the Sun sometime after mid-month.
Along with the intensity of the Uranus and Pluto timings mentioned above, we have another milestone today as Venus conjuncts the South Node in Libra, in the constellation of the Virgin Priestess. The planet of the Sacred Feminine, in the area of the sky most associated with the Great Mother through time and across cultures, is activating our current past and future nodal axis in Libra-Aries.
We have a powerful opportunity, both as individuals and as global humanity, to discard outworn relationship paradigms as we gravitate towards new ones, informed by our inner sovereign Feminine knowing (for both men and women). She Who Knows is here to support us fully as we step into the unknown future, pregnant with the possibility of soul rebirth.
Wednesday, September 4
Gemini synodic cycle overstory Mars enters the sign of Cancer this afternoon, marking his transition from the growth of wisdom phase into the final stages of his 26-month exploration of archetypal Gemini. This is a time of gestation and incubation, a final integration of all he has learned before he reaches opposition to the Sun next January and begins a whole new synodic cycle exploration of archetypal Cancer.
Mars continues to be visible in the early morning sky, along with Jupiter and royal star Aldebaran, marking the eye of the Bull constellation. Mars and Jupiter are drifting apart, reaching 10 degrees of separation now. This is a rich invitation to seek council with these wise elders as they inhabit the area of the sky near Galactic Edge, considered an origin point for souls coming into incarnation here in the Earth realm.
Thursday, September 5
Venus is with the waning sliver of the crescent Moon this evening in the western sky at 18 Libra 21. This marks the second chakra gate in the evening star ascent journey of the sacred feminine in her Leo overstory synodic cycle. Since the Venus Moon conjunction is exact in the very early morning hours, this alignment will be visible both Wednesday and Thursday evening for those here in North America.
A good time to ponder issues around our fundamental expression of creativity at all levels, as we navigate this journey of incarnation. And don’t forget to look for Mercury in the eastern morning twilight, as it reaches its maximum elongation today.
Friday, September 6
The Moon has now moved farther away from the horizon and from Venus, after yesterday’s conjunction, activating bright star Spica this evening, in the constellation of the Virgin Priestess at 24 Libra 10.
The Chandra Symbol for this Spica degree, Libra 25, is “In the midst of a forest, a great circular open area.” John Sandbach, the originator of the Chandra degrees, has this to say:
“This is a place to hide, to commune secretly with others, and to be protected as this happens. This degree has the power of touching everyone it meets in an intimate and ineffable way that is often subliminal and unsuspected… This degree is all about finding a space in which to connect, and has the ability to do this swiftly and instinctively – to just be there where the other person is in intimate rapport, offering escape and relief from the world’s narrow focus. It is through going to this place of deep communion and then returning that we are rejuvenated and hence able to deal with our own world with greater clarity and perspective.”
Saturday, September 7
Late tonight the Virgo Sun makes its yearly opposition to Saturn, currently deep into its two and a half year sojourn through the sign of Pisces. Saturn is visible all night until dawn, traveling with the stars of the Water Bearer and Fish constellations. The Sun in the sign of sacred work is illuminating the planet of practical application as it inhabits the sign of deep spiritual feeling. This is a powerful opportunity to meditate with the night sky, asking for wisdom from grandmother Saturn as we seek to integrate new spiritual frequencies into our daily reality in the most beneficial ways.
Sunday, September 8
Impetuous Leo Overstory Mercury, in its Apollo morning star phase, makes its first sign change in this synodic cycle as it moves into Virgo late tonight. It will be passing near the royal star Regulus, the heart of the Lion constellation, over the next three mornings, closest tomorrow morning. How can our immediate, intuitive knowing be enhanced by a deeper dive into Virgo’s realm of sacred patterning, as we learn to open to our innate body wisdom and its ability to commune with the elemental forces of nature on a cellular level, supported by our essential sense of personal sovereignty?
Monday, September 9
The Moon in late degrees of Scorpio / early degrees of Sagittarius goes out of bounds today until Saturday. We are at the heart of this once in every 18-19 year cycle when the Moon travels beyond the usual limits set by the Sun in its daily rising and setting. Combined with the many current timings that indicate the beginning and end of a 26,000 year (or maybe even longer!) cosmic age, there is a deep invitation to surrender any attachment to how things are. Way past time to let go of any false allegiances to consensus reality, as we dream into a new world age, infused with our own wild and wacky, utterly unique heart’s wisdom.
The out of bounds, waxing crescent Moon will be passing through the stars of the Scorpion constellation tonight and tomorrow, passing bright red Antares at its heart (closest tomorrow night). Look for them just below the ecliptic to the south west in the evening sky.
Tuesday, September 10
The waxing Moon in Sagittarius squares the Virgo Sun around 11:00 pm tonight, ending our week with a Second Quarter Moon. As we reach this first major decision point in the Virgo lunation month, we are feeling the tension between Sagittarius’ relentless focus on the quest for meaning with Virgo’s more nuanced perception of how best to dance in sacred harmony with nature’s rhythms.
Our task is to hold both realities simultaneously, using the leverage of fiery inspiration to impel us toward the fulfillment of our New Moon intentions, while summoning the patience to allow ourselves to seek out and be guided by the soul’s subtle discernment, as we navigate internal and external currents of unprecedented change.
