This week’s astro update begins with the last quarter Moon in Virgo on Friday evening, November 22, and ends with an out-of-bounds Sagittarius New Moon on Saturday night, November 30. Here are the highlights (all times in PST).
Friday, November 22
The Moon at 01 Virgo 15 squares the Sun in Sagittarius today at 5:28 pm, rising around midnight and setting around noon. It will be hanging out near the royal star Regulus, the heart of the Lion constellation. Look for them a few hours before dawn in the morning sky both today and tomorrow.
As we begin this last week of the lunation that began with a potent Scorpio New Moon, it is time to feel into the process of letting go once again. With the Moon and Sun both having moved from signs of self-exploration into Virgo and Sagittarius, we are asked to shift our focus in service to something greater than ourselves.
What personal insights from the last several weeks do we want to deepen into to support this new direction? What do we need to bless and let go of so we can walk forward with a lighter step? The Moon in Virgo, enhanced by the magic of sovereign Regulus, invites us to activate this composting process as we co-create ceremony with these soli-lunar energies in the pre-dawn sky.
Saturday, November 23
Gemini overstory Mars, now in Leo as it nears the end of its synodic cycle, continues to brighten as it hangs out near Castor and Pollux at the feet of the Twins constellation. It will rise late evening towards the northeast and is visible until dawn. In January this planet of the Sacred Masculine will be retrograde and opposite to the Sun, appearing closest and brightest to us as it begins a whole new archetypal integration journey in the sign of nurturing Cancer.
Sunday, November 24
Jupiter in Gemini continues to be a bright beacon in the night sky, rising around sunset and traveling with royal star Aldebaran, the fiery eye of the Bull constellation, until dawn. Tune in for inspirational wisdom, as the sign of shape-shifting creativity beyond the bounds of duality is sparked by transmissions from this magical part of the night sky, with the beautiful Pleiades, the Seven Sisters of myth and legend, shining nearby.
Monday, November 25
Leo overstory Mercury stations retrograde this evening at 22 Sagittarius 40, as it nears the end of its evening star phase. Look for it low on the western horizon after sunset. How is Leo’s deep connection with its own incontrovertible sense of self being sparked and enhanced by Sagittarius’ expansive need to explore new territory?
Venus in Capricorn is here in the evening sky as well, continuing to shine brightly high in the west after sunset as she traverses the heart chakra portal. What messages of love and compassion might she have for us as we sit with her under the fading light of the evening sky?
Tuesday, November 26
The waning crescent Moon in Libra will be strongly illuminating Spica, the brightest star in the Virgin constellation, today and tomorrow. Look for them in the eastern pre-dawn sky. Tomorrow morning the Moon will actually pass in front of the star, visible in the continental United States, eastern Canada and north-western Bahamas. This is a potent combination, as the Moon in relational Libra is receiving transmissions from this compelling pattern of stars, replete with deep associations through time with the archetypal Great Mother.
As a lead up to this activation of Sacred Feminine mysteries, the Moon will be conjunct asteroid Vesta early this morning at 14 Libra 04. What relationships, either inner or outer, are calling for our sacred focus at this potent time?
Wednesday, November 27
Mars in Leo is making an inspirational trine with Sun in Sagittarius today. A supportive timing for following the lead of our inner impulses toward expansion, as we put them into action in the world. Who knows what ripples of change we might initiate, with even the smallest of actions?
Thursday, November 28
The waning Crescent Moon in Scorpio can be found near Zubenelgenubi, one of the two main stars of the Scale constellation, early this morning and tomorrow morning. Look for them, with Spica above, about an hour before sunrise on the eastern horizon.
Meanwhile messenger Mercury, newly retrograde, comes within 15 degrees of the Sun in the evening sky today, marking its entry into its metamorphosis phase as it enters the threshold to the underworld, no longer visible to us. Mercury is on it’s way to a meet-up with the Sun early next month, as it passes between the Earth and Sun on its interior track.
Saturday, November 30
The Moon meets with the Sun at 10:21 pm this evening at 09 Sagittarius 33, also moving out-of-bounds north today until December 5.
John Sandbach’s commentary for this degree frequency, Sagittarius 10, offers us a somewhat whimsical word picture:
“AWARENESS OF THE OPEN INVITATION OFFERED BY COSMIC FORCES.
The Omega Symbol: A man being followed by a spaceship. This degree is constantly being invited to embark on journeys and adventures. If it refuses these offers they will not go away but will continue to pursue the person wherever he goes. The way out of this stress is to give in to the adventure, for it is actually the heart that is calling, and the true self that wants to be found.”
From John Sandbach, The Circular Temple
As we end this lunation month seeded by the deep interior power of Scorpio and its relentless ability to stay with what matters most, let us now call forth a different kind of courage – the courage to launch ourselves into new adventures as we follow the call of the heart in these times of great chaos, and great opportunity.
