Wizard Weekly by Daniel Giamario | August 2 2026 |
Tomorrow, Monday, August 3, at 1:10PM PDT, Chiron is SR at 00Taurus51. Since I generally allocate a three day period of initiatory intensity for outer planet stations, conjunctions, squares and oppositions, this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday are prime Chiron days. Therefore, it’s a good time to check in on Chiron. For instance, any child born now, will have a Chiron-Pluto square, with the exact square between these two underworld initiators ahead of us in 2027, during the start of the United States Uranus Return.
With its eccentric elliptical orbit, Chiron (like Pluto) spends vastly varying periods of time in each sign.
- Aries: ~8 to 9 years, the longest traverse due to Chiron’s slow movement in this part of the sky
- Taurus: ~7 to 8 years
- Gemini: ~4 to 5 years
- Cancer: ~3 years
- Leo & Virgo: ~2 years each
- Libra & neighboring signs: varies from about 1.5 to 2 years
Here are the most recent and current dates for Chiron in Taurus:
May 24, 1926 – March 23, 1934: The end of the “Roaring 20’s”, Wall Street crash, and Great Depression
May 26, 1976 – April 15, 1984: The rise of the yuppies, Reagan/Thatcher deregulation; the punk movement sells out to commercialism.
June 19, 2026 – May 6, 2034: Global Financial Reset
When Chiron crossed the Taurus threshold back on June 19, it was just the initial ingress. The retrograde journey starting tomorrow will take him back into Aries once more. Chiron will only completely enter Taurus in April of 2027.
What is the Intent of Chiron in Taurus?
In the TOTAMS paradigm, Chiron, along with Pluto, is allocated to the Lower World. As an agent of underworld initiations, it requires surrender, followed by integration, transformation, and wholeness. Its actions, however, differ substantially from Pluto.
Instead of using the greatly overused “wounded healer” appellation, I see Chiron indicating the “fracture points” in our life. He is not the wounder, and Chiron cycles do not indicate wounding. Rather, he points out where the fracture points are, and then offers counsel and the required medicine for healing, but only if you are willing to participate. If not, then events where the universe makes the first move can and do occur. These events generally include circumstances beyond our control and create the conditions for surrender. In these cases, there are similarities to the initiatory objectives of Pluto.
What is meant by “fracture points?” Chiron exists in three worlds: part immortal, part human, part beast. He is the holder of medicine that bridges all three. When applied to an individual, Chiron points to where the specific personal fracture points are, as well as the “usual suspects”, such as lack of self-love, betrayal, violation, abandonment etc., that all human beings have one or more of – any and all conditions that occur from when birthing into life tears us away from our essential unity and the connection to our Divinity. Chiron can, and to the receptive person then does, offer the healing elixir.
The Taurus Mystery School of Life
Just as Pluto by sign reveals the shadow of that sign, Chiron by sign can also indicate the shadow of that sign, and then suggest antidotes, with the capacity to offer elixirs from all three worlds.
As an Earth sign in the modality of Self-Exploration, the essence of Taurus can be stated as having the courage to explore the deepest possibilities of a physical human incarnation for the purpose of enjoying and savouring it. It is related to Epicureanism, i.e. if you find something that feels good and has value, make it last as long as possible, take it as deep as possible, and always use with moderation.
From this original essence can easily emerge its shadows, often found in the popular descriptions of Sun-sign Taurus. Things like stubbornness, indulgence, hoarding, major security issues, and difficulties to change. This brings us to what historically is a prime category for the shadow of Taurus, and what Chiron is attempting to point out.
Debauchery
The word “debauchery” best sums it up. I have excerpted the following from online etymology resources. “Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die”, as the old saying expresses it.
“The word debauchery comes from the English verb debauch and the suffix -ery, arising in the 1640s to mean excessive sensual indulgence.
Path from Old French to English
- Old French (desbaucher): Originally combined des- (away, off) and a word related to a beam or workshop (bauch / balk), literally meaning to lure a worker away from their job or duty.
- Shift to Morals (1600): The meaning shifted from leading someone away from work to leading someone away from virtue, duty, or morality.
- Sensual Excess (1640s): English speakers added -ery to create debauchery, pinpointing the habit of wild partying and physical overindulgence.
- Moral Corruption: Moving away from duty, virtue, and right behavior into a lifestyle of vice.
The more specific meaning, ‘seduce from virtue or morality, corrupt the morals or principles of’, is from ca. 1600, especially ‘to corrupt with lewdness, seduce sexually,’ usually in reference to women.”
Historical eras with Chiron in Taurus were clearly such times, leading to expectable results: The Roaring 20s led to the Great Depression, the Reagan-Thatcher era led to the destruction of the middle class and the decimation and theft of the resources of the third world countries. What will the commencing transit bring? More power to the Epstein class, the banks, and the tech bros who are hoarding and controlling the wealth and abundance of the Earth? Or some kind of Chironic intervention and healing? This transit, after all, has barely started, with one more backtrack into Aries.
Seven of Cups
The Tarot can sometimes be useful to illustrate astrological principles. The Seven of Cups is a particularly interesting card that relates to our topic. Most renditions relate it to Venus, Taurus, and the metal copper. Most all render it dreamy and rather idealistic. The following is typical:
“The Seven of Cups tarot card symbolizes imagination, choices, and illusion. It represents an abundance of options, daydreaming, and wishful thinking without action.”
However, Aleister Crowley, in his usual contrarian way, relates this card to Venus in Scorpio, and calls it Debauch.
He describes the card as follows:
Illusion and Madness: Crowley wrote in The Book of Thoth that this card represents the “mode of poison” and the “goal of madness,” signifying a complete loss of touch with reality.
Unhealthy Escapism: It shows the mind sinking into a mire of false pleasures, wishful thinking, and addictive behaviors, where daydreams turn into a destructive runaway from life.
Rotting Desires: The imagery features iridescent, unstable cups filled with sickly, corrupted lotus flowers turning into tiger lilies, showing emotional waters spoiling in the depths of desire.
This card, by words and image, describes better than anything I have ever found, what I think Chiron is trying to point out, and where healing of some kind is necessary.
Cultivating Healthy Taurus
Healthy Taurus is very different. Knowing what is good and has virtue does not require hoarding or ownership. Complete and perfect security in our physical embodiment is not possible, no matter how much money, how many bunkers, security cameras, or insurance policies anyone might have.
Healthy Taurus enjoys the natural abundance of the Earth, and takes the time to slow down and “smell the Roses”. Don’t be in such a hurry. Beauty and Art connect us to our essential Divinity. See intimacy as an art form, something worth doing for its own sake, not with a goal, safety or security in mind. A man who truly understood the essence of the Taurus Mystery School was Nicholas Roerich, who suggested that hospitals and prisons should be more like museums and art galleries, not the white antiseptic sterility of modern hospitals with their atrocious food, or the brutalist architecture of prisons and tenement blocks.
Above all, Chiron hopes to bring us back to the Earth, the Garden of Earthy Delights, to savour and enjoy its natural abundance. We are also reminded by Chiron that we are immortal and Divine Beings, just like he himself, was immortal, human and beast. May we heed his teaching in pointing out debauchery and other Taurean mistakes, and receive his elixirs … or suffer the expectable consequences!
