Within the context and energies of the Sun’s annual opposition to Uranus that occurred Friday, November 21, at 29Scorpio26/29Taurus26, the exact Mars-Moon conjunction on the US ASC, also last Friday, another maximum out-of-bounds (28S15) Capricorn Moon today, Sunday, November 23, and the ongoing metamorphic phase of Mercury Retrograde, it’s somewhat challenging to decide what to cover in this short post!
I am choosing the descent of Venus into the exterior underworld and the celestial support of outer planet trines and sextiles.
The Descent of Venus
The day Venus can no longer be seen – when she moves too close and to the other side of the Sun – will vary based on the season this is happening in, your horizon, and relative to which of the five synodic cycles it is. Varying from culture to culture, ancient peoples would create ceremonial timings for this. A modern approach, adopted by the astronomical community as well as by TOTAMS, is to use a 10degree orb.
Venus-Moon 8th Gate, Nov 18 2025, Southern Spain
Being on her now rapid descent into the underworld, the pre-dawn skies of Monday and Tuesday are when Venus moves into the 10degree orb from the Sun. Though reports are coming in that she can still relatively easily be seen shining brightly above the horizon. These mornings formally end the 8th Gate Death-By-Intent portal which began with the Moon-Venus conjunction on November 18 at 15Scorpio22. During this short 8th Gate, Venus has been navigating the stars of the Scales constellation, undergoing the trial of seeing if her heart and a feather are the same weight.
Inanna and Ninshubar
Another remarkable feature of her descent is that both mornings Venus will be aligned with Mercury. The exact conjunction is Monday, 5:52PM PST, at 22Scorpio45. Mercury retrograde is rising in the morning between the Earth and Sun, aligning with Venus moving quickly towards the other side of the Sun. Alas, Mercury will be really hard to see without binoculars, but is there with her. A much more prominent and easily visible Mercury-Venus pairing will happen next February (exact Feb 27 at 22Pisces15) soon after Venus begins her evening star ascent round February 17. This has quite a spooky connection with the ancient Sumerian stories of Inanna (Venus) and Ninshubar (Mercury), tracing in this Pisces Overstory the exact same pattern as 5000 years ago! In Praise of Trines and Sextiles
Since they are agents of initiation, over the years in the different renditions of the schools I have founded, significantly more attention and importance has been offered to conjunctions, squares and oppositions. Considerably less so to trines and sextiles, because for the most part, they exist as background support and often don’t actually do anything. The analogy I love to use is that lead singers or lead guitarists need a good backup band with real musicians.
Most everyone is aware of the remarkable long lasting Uranus-Pluto trine, and the Saturn-Neptune sextiles to each. This is such a great back-up band, and incredibly helpful in these world-changing times: The three transpersonal planets and the primary agent of the middle world all in harmonic resonance! Saturn as a great drummer or bass player, Neptune as the keyboardist or on synthesizer, Uranus a multi-instrumentalist, and Pluto on a wild sax. Use your imagination on this, as you may see it differently. Imagine you are the lead singer in alignment with your life purpose … Whether its a difficult gig or a great one, or even if its hard to get a gig, its great to know that there is a great backing band there to hold it all together.
A Challenging Situation
