This week’s astro update begins with a potent Scorpio New Moon on November 1 and ends with an Aquarius Second Quarter Moon very late on Friday, November 8. Here are the highlights (all times in PST, except as otherwise noted).
Friday, November 1
The New Moon is exact this morning 5:47 am at 09 Scorpio 35, just a few days before the astrological cross-quarter when the Sun reaches Scorpio 15. This is the time of year when the veils between the worlds are thin, and many cultures celebrate traditions to honor their beloved dead. Scorpio energies remind us of the necessity of honoring our deepest desire nature if we want to become truly alive in this brief journey of incarnation. What inner seed is most longing to be planted in the fecund darkness of this powerful New Moon?
The chart of this New Moon features a tight T-square at the very last, most intense degree of three householder signs, with Mars in Cancer in a stand-off with Pluto in Capricorn (opposition will be exact this coming Sunday), both squared by Juno in relational Libra.
We are coming to the end of the current 25-months Gemini overstory synodic cycle of Mars, as he gestates a new archetypal journey in the sign of Cancer, due to be born in January. Dreams of a more healthy expression of an authentic, nurturing archetypal masculine are facing opposition from old versions of how things “should” be. How can we create truly viable new structures that will support this emergence over the years to come?
Asteroid goddess Juno in Libra reminds us to call on the power of equal, collaborative relationships as we tackle the daunting task of building a new operating manual that honors personal freedom while also creating a safe container for all that is most tender and needs collective support to thrive and flower.
Mars is rising around midnight, visible in the east before dawn, having now exited the Sacred Hoop. An excellent opportunity to tune in during the magical hours before sunrise, wishing him well as he dreams a new dream, and perhaps receiving inspiration for our own current journey of New Moon renewal.
Saturday, November 2
Messenger Mercury continues in its Hermes evening star phase all month, entering vision-questing Sagittarius today (its fourth sign change since beginning this Leo overstory synodic cycle in August). Mercury will be near the thin crescent of the New Moon in the evening sky to the west over the next few days – look for them together very low on the horizon.
Sunday, November 3
The Mars Pluto opposition mentioned above (in the last degree of Cancer/Capricorn) is exact this morning very early, before Mars enters enthusiastic Leo later this evening, as he begins his journey through the Crab constellation.
Meanwhile, Leo overstory Venus, finishing up her third chakra portal activation, continues to rise higher in the evening sky. She is standing opposite to expansive Jupiter in Gemini (exact this morning), with Jupiter rising a few hours after sunset in the east, as Venus disappears in the west. Jupiter is shining brightly all night until dawn, near red Aldebaran in the Bull Constellation.
Monday, November 4
Leo overstory Venus, currently in the sign of Sagittarius, will make her fourth evening star conjunction with the New Moon this evening, opening this month’s heart chakra portal activation. The sign of Leo has deep associations with heart-centered themes of courage and passion. What new fire longs to be kindled in our hearts this month, as the Leo sacred feminine, on her journey of archetypal integration, is impulsed by visionary Sagittarius? See what answers may come, as you sit with Venus and the Moon this evening.
We have watery support for this deep-feeling journey of the heart, as the Scorpio Sun makes a supportive trine with retrograde Saturn in Pisces, exact just after noon earlier today. Time to follow the visceral path of our true heart’s desire, with no need for outward approval, trusting that this alone has the power to grant us a more authentic, grounded relationship with All That Is.
Tuesday, November 5
The Moon went out of bounds again on Saturday, reaching maximum out of bounds today before returning to its more usual path on Friday. Time to throw off the shackles of consensus reality as we expect the unexpected. For a new world to be built, we need to have the courage to step outside the false boundaries of the one that’s now falling apart. Practice by unashamedly celebrating your own unique expression today in some way, no matter how small.
For inspiration, here’s the last lines of a favorite poem by Wendell Berry,
Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front
“As soon as the generals and the politicos
can predict the motions of your mind,
lose it. Leave it as a sign
to mark the false trail, the way
you didn’t go. Be like the fox
who makes more tracks than necessary,
some in the wrong direction.Practice resurrection.”
Thursday, November 7
The waxing Moon makes its monthly conjunction with Pluto this evening, once again emphasizing this potent last degree of Capricorn that Pluto has been inexorably grinding through, in its final throes of deconstructing old structures, creating compost for what is to come in its approaching transit through innovative Aquarius.
The original Sabian Symbol for this Capricorn 30 degree is, “A secret business conference” or, in Rudhar’s version, “A secret meeting of men responsible for executive decisions in world affairs.” In his newly channeled Pleiadian Symbols, a re-envisioning of the original Sabian symbols, John Sandbach recreates this symbol as, “The planning of an angelic city.”
Humanity stands at a turning point – will we continue to let the old, anti-life powers of the last few thousand years hold sway, creating ever more monstrous systems to suppress the very essence of what it means to be human? Or will we choose to claim a more expanded reality, one that is sourced in the essential harmonies of Great Mystery itself, allowing us to take our rightful place as members of the galactic human family?
Friday, November 8
The Moon at 17 Aquarius 20 will square the Sun in Scorpio at 9:55 pm. This Second Quarter Moon marks the first decision point in the Scorpio lunation cycle. Will we have the strength and vision to continue in our commitment to what was seeded under the New Moon influences? What must be let go of to continue on course to the flowering of next week’s Full Moon?
As we struggle with our balancing act of living in all three worlds at once – celestial, middle, and lower – this week’s timings remind us of the need to seek inspiration from our highest vision while deeply mired in the broken reality of a world gone mad, seemingly on the brink of underworld destruction on all sides.
Sandbach’s keynote for the last degree of Capricorn discussed above, prominent in so many of this week’s timings, is “The channeling of light into the physical world.” May we remember, in the darkest of times, that this is exactly why we came to be here, at this fragile, pregnant moment of potency at a great Turning of the Ages. It is who we are.
