Taurus’ Highest Expression
Taurus is a celebration of what it means to be here, on Earth, bringing Spirit into Matter. Taurus reminds us that we do indeed have a body that requires care and has needs. And, it does not end there; we are invited to go further than this. Taurus wants to know PLEASURE which, in my experience is not spoken to as directly in the current understanding of what it means to embody this sign fully. When inquiring into Taurus as a theme or a placement in an astrological chart it helps to ask, “What is at the very root of the highest expression of this sign?”.
While I prefer not to make the understanding of an astrological sign linear, sometimes a list is helpful to illuminate what we might be forgetting. Here is Taurus for me as a process of evolution. This is by no means a complete depiction, more of a platform for further contemplation.
-
Embodiment – the spirit arrives into the body. There are senses: touch, vision, taste, sound and smell.
-
Resources – we have needs. Basic, essential needs like food, water, shelter, safety.
-
Worthiness – often not considered and an essential part of Taurus. Some of us might have to consider whether or not we actually feel worthy of being here, in this body with all its needs. Not just worthy to BE HERE but also worthy to be provided with the things we need to survive… and to thrive.
-
Receptivity – often skipped over in the inquiry, receptivity is an essential part of the journey. For some of us it is worth asking; “…are my hands open to receive?”. This is an important place to pause and consider if we are truly open to letting in whatever it is we are hoping to receive. This can require deep exploration, healing and perhaps even consciously opening those pathways for the very first time in our lives.
-
Abundance – this part speaks to a combination of the previous points. When we are open to receive, when we know our innate worthiness, when we know what we truly need – an abundance can flow in. Sometimes we have to look at our relationship to abundance. Is it out of balance? Do we judge abundance in all of its expressions? The imbalance can go in different directions – from overindulgence driven by greed all the way through to such deep judgement of abundance that we may never allow ourselves to experience what it is to have more than enough, which in turn could have led to us sharing and providing for others.
-
Pleasure – lastly the piece that is a surprise to some. Taurus wants pleasure – the beautiful smelling flower, the delicious tasting delicacy, the exquisite sounds of harmony in song, to be touched in the way that feels just right, to gaze upon something so stunning…
Things unfold, grow and develop in ways we cannot always track with logic. Oftentimes the essence of a sign comes into being through a lack of or over-expression of it. There may be parts that seem completely foreign and others that are so basic to us we overlook them or take them for granted. The Taurus New Moon is a perfect opportunity to notice, to give thanks, to call in or perhaps to rebalance our relationship with all of the themes mentioned above.
Mercury – Somatically Integrating
Mercury conjunct this New Moon at 28°41 Taurus is currently in the Pisces overstory. At this phase in Mercury’s cycle we are offered a way to connect to the Pisces Mystery School through Mercury’s current placement in Taurus. Mercury, being the messenger or communicator, can now help facilitate a way for us to bring those intuitive and ineffable aspects (Pisces) down into the body (Taurus). We may find we have a little more access to somatically integrating the past few months which for some have been fast, strong and intense. Inside of this Sun, Moon, Mercury conjunction in Taurus I imagine New Moon ceremonies including plentiful space for somatic practice, physical integration plus an abundance of beauty making, pleasure and enjoyment.
Uranus – The Great Awakener
Uranus in Gemini now at 1°10’ has been squaring the Nodal Axis since May 5 which continues through July 27 (also, the day the Nodes shift into new signs for the first time in 18 months). This squaring is activating the nodal axis in its final weeks on the Virgo/Pisces axis. Uranus, the great awakener is now in Gemini which was referred to as a ‘revolutionary trickster energy’ in the TOTAMS Uranus Gemini seminar I co-hosted with Daniel Giamario. Could the energy of the square, sometimes referred to by Daniel as a ‘crisis in action’, awaken us even further into what is needed now more than ever from the energy of the North Node in Pisces – empathy, care, compassion and love for ALL beings? Uranus is also close to the New Moon point at this time which makes it feel like even more of a seed point for this aspect.
Mars – Healing For The Inner Sacred Masculine
Mars continues onward in the 148-day, Rebirth & Growth of Wisdom phase of his Cancer Overstory. On May 14, just a couple of days prior to this New Moon, Mars will reach the third portal of this current phase where he aligns with the Moon. Then on the New Moon day Mars will conjunct Chiron at 28°25’ Aries. This alignment seeds healing for the inner sacred masculine in all of us inside of the New Moon portal – another aspect to be brought to the altar, along with all of the Taurus energy already spoken of.
Venus – Seal In The Work
Venus, the inner sacred feminine in all of us, will reach her fourth gate, the Heart Chakra in her ascending journey, on May 18 at 00°02’ Cancer. This New Moon will also hold us all in the final days of Venus working with her third gate of the Solar Plexus while she is in the final degrees of Taurus. We may use this time to seal in the work we have been doing around reclaiming self-confidence, self-esteem, purpose, and inherent power that I spoke of last New Moon. All of this can be supported so deeply by the energies of Taurus described above if we choose to work with the layers of worthiness and receptivity.
Pause and Smell The Flowers
Overall this New Moon point feels like a time to slow down, a time to give thanks and a time for much needed integration – even while many bigger cycles are spinning and moving things forward in a way that feels faster than usual. This Taurus Moon reminds us to pause, smell the flowers, taste the flavors of the moment and let it all settle for a moment in the steadiness of the dark moon.
