Our lunation week begins on Sunday with an intense 2nd Quarter Moon in Leo and ends with a deeply unpredictable Scorpio Full Moon on Monday, May 12. The relentless focus of recent weeks on deep inner transformation continues unabated. Let’s take a look (all times in PDT).
Sunday, May 4
The Second Quarter Moon at 14 Leo 21 is squaring the Sun in Taurus, exact at 6:52 this morning. Cancer Overstory Mars is hovering nearby, having met up with the Moon yesterday evening, near the Beehive cluster in the Crab constellation.
This Moon-Mars combo in boisterous Leo, in a dynamic square to the pleasure-loving Taurus Sun, might have us chafing at life circumstances that feel as if they are hindering free expression of our innate creativity. And any feelings of ‘stuckness’ may be exacerbated by Pluto, which has been slowing down in preparation for turning retrograde this very same morning at 03 Aquarius 49.
At this second quarter Moon decision point in earthy Taurus, we are encouraged to let go of joyless activities that sap our life force as we commit to following our own sacred pleasure-led path. This timing asks us to go deep, requiring an unflinching self-honesty.
Rather than reacting in haste to perceived obstacles, it might be more fruitful to look within for unresolved emotions that are causing us to manifest these old, stuck patterns in the circumstances of our outer world. Although the process itself may not feel comfortable, the current timings offer the potential for a life-changing release of old karmas, freeing us to go forward in a new way.
Monday, May 5
The Moon is with royal star Regulus this evening, at the heart of the Lion constellation. Look for Mars nearby towards the west, making its closest alignment with the Beehive Cluster tonight at midnight. Early this morning and tomorrow morning is also the predicted peak of the Eta Aquarids meteor shower.
There is another punctuation point today in the continuing gathering of energies in watery Pisces and fiery Aries, so prominent over the last few months, as asteroid Ceres has her exact rendezvous with the future-oriented North Node at 26 Pisces 18. Grounded Saturn, planet of keeping things real, is just two degrees away. It is imperative that we slow down and ask ourselves what we need to more fully support the tender dreamer residing deep inside.
Are we living from our soul’s truest mystical vision, or have we been side-tracked by dying society’s false instruction manual? As Saturn prepares to join Neptune (as well as Venus, Mercury, Chiron and Eris!) in initiatory Aries later this month, it’s time to make sure we are re-calibrated to our own true north star, as a necessary precursor to wielding Aries’ pioneering energy most effectively in the incredibly volatile – and potentially transformative – months to come.
Tuesday, May 6
Pisces overstory Mercury is meeting with Chiron in Aries early this morning. This cosmic timing presages the first Chiron-Eris meet-up, happening at the end of this month, which will begin a long dance between these two powerful agents of deep transformation.
Am I willing to embrace myself wholeheartedly, just as I am in this moment, warts and all? With messenger Mercury meeting Chiron today before catching up with Eris tomorrow, this would be a great time to tune in for messages from the fiercely compassionate healer/warrior within to help us walk more deeply into this essential journey of radical self-compassion.
Mercury, Venus and Saturn continue to dance together in the early morning sky, although bright Venus is definitely outshining her companions. After meeting twice last month, Venus and Saturn will now be moving farther apart in the pre-dawn sky. Pisces overstory Venus, in early degrees of Aries with Neptune nearby, continues her activation of the crown chakra gate in her journey of descent towards the underworld.
Wednesday, May 7
Expansive Jupiter in shape-shifting Gemini continues to shine brightly in the evening sky, setting just before midnight. Look for it towards the southwest, in the horns of the Bull constellation, with royal star Aldebaran nearby.
Friday, May 9
The waxing Moon is with Spica tonight and tomorrow (there will be an occultation, visible in southwest Chile and across Oceania). This is a supportive timing for tuning in to the nurturing wisdom of this brightest star in the Virgin Priestess constellation, long associated with the archetype of the Great Mother Goddess.
Saturday, May 10
Pisces overstory Mercury experiences its second sign change in the current synodic cycle, as it moves into pleasure-loving Taurus early this morning. What might earthy Taurus have to teach this heart-centered Sacred Messenger? The answer lies outside the customary parameters of airy rationality, asking us to slow down and tune in to the more subtle messages of our own body-knowing.
Monday, May 12
We end our lunation week with the Scorpio Full Moon at 22 Scorpio 13, opposite the Sun in Taurus. Messenger Mercury, also in Taurus, will be squaring Pluto in Aquarius just a half an hour later. This timing continues this week’s emphasis on themes of deep self-exploration, with Scorpio’s relentless ability to go to the depths urging us to push past our own self-imposed inner boundaries.
This is the Full Moon closest to the Beltane cross-quarter, when the Sun reaches Taurus 15, a time to celebrate the voluptuous gift of incarnation. John Sandbach’s title for this Scorpio 23 degree frequency is “the valuing and protecting of beauty in all its many forms.” The Chandra symbol is “A collection of dolls.” In his commentary, Sandbach points to the primary importance of how things feel from our inner, subjective knowing, rather than how they look on the surface, or how they may be judged by outer, consensus-reality standards.
The cosmic timings in this eternal moment are inviting us to venture deeper into our own unexplored inner landscape. The territory is vast, and the path uncertain, but it will lead us through myriad realms of untold wonders, if only we can summon a radical allowing of what is. Adventure awaits – no better time than now to take the first step into new territory, guided by your own soul’s deepest longing.
