On Thursday, July 10, with the out-of-bounds Capricorn Full Moon at 18 Capricorn 50, we reach the flowering of the seed that was planted at the Cancer New Moon two weeks ago, just after the Solstice. As elucidated in Marianna’s Cancer New Moon article, the New Moon offered an invitation to soul nourishment, with implications that go far beyond this current lunation, reverberating deeply with the currents of change now washing over us.
The Cancer-Capricorn zodiac axis holds a deep resonance with ancestral wisdom. Working together, these archetypal energies long to access the repository of knowledge left by past generations to help forge a more healthful future for those to come. The New and Full Moon alignments in these water and earth element culture bearer signs, occurring each year around the two Solstice Seasons, offer us an accelerated opportunity to delve deeply into our own process of ancestral healing.
We are also experiencing a once-in-twelve-year amplification of these cyclical timings, as expansive Jupiter launches its year-long journey through watery Cancer, the sign of responsible nurturing and conscious emotional support of those it loves.
The Weight of Unresolved Shadows
The Sabian and Chandra degree symbols for this Full Moon amplify this theme of growth through clearing of personal and family karma. The Sabian symbol for the position of the Full Moon is Capricorn 19, “A child of about five with a huge shopping bag.” The Chandra symbol for the same degree is, “A half-eaten piece of bread.” The Sabian degree evokes the desire to be of service as we venture into new experiences. Although there is definitely a risk involved, and caution is advised lest our energy become depleted, the willingness to take on greater responsibility as we stretch beyond our expected capacity offers the opportunity for accelerated growth.
The half-eaten bread in the Chandra symbol evokes a variety of meanings. On the one hand, as suggested by John Sandbach, it asks us to explore the boundary between what is truly needed to sustain life, and glutinous over-indulgence. It asks us to simplify our lives, as we determine what is truly most important.
From a different lens, as described by Ellias Lonsdale, the unfinished bread evokes our unfinished (undigested) experiences from past lifetimes, and the trauma we still hold in our bodies and psyches as a result. We can choose to ignore this weight of unresolved shadows, convincing ourselves that it is futile or unnecessary to attempt to clear them. But their existence is real and will continue to affect our lives in profound ways until we make the commitment to face them and free up the stuck energy they hold.
The complementary Sabian symbol for the Sun at this Full Moon, at Cancer 19, is “A priest performing a marriage ceremony.” Dane Rudhyar gives us the keyword “sanctify” for this degree. On the esoteric level, it speaks to the coming together of disparate, yet potentially complementary, energies. The emphasis on the priest performing the ceremony reminds us that any relationship takes place in the context of a greater whole, which it is designed to serve. Archetypally, a marriage serves the collective by forging a container for the nurture of future generations.
Breaking Free From Old Ghosts
With evolutionary Uranus just having moved into rule-bending Gemini a few days ago, accompanied by Venus at the throat chakra gate in her journey of descent to the underworld, the stage is definitely set for breaking free from old ghosts. And Saturn and Neptune traveling together in the first degrees of initiatory Aries are only adding fuel to this evolutionary fire.
Venus activating the throat chakra is not just about clearing blocks that keep us from speaking our truth, but also about clearing old wounds so we can learn to listen more deeply. As we sit with the profound energies of this responsible elder Moon, we have the opportunity to call on the assistance of our most ancient ancestors – including those whose origin point may exist beyond the reaches of our solar system. What undreamt of wisdom is waiting to be revealed?
At this Capricorn Full Moon moment, as the out-of-bounds Moon seeks to support a less constricted version of old paradigms, a whole new relationship with those who came before us is waiting to be uncovered. As we seek their assistance to heal past traumas (from this lifetime, as well as ones that came before), we have the power to affect not only our own lives, but all those connected to our ancestral/spiritual lineages, creating unseen ripples of change moving out across the collective waters.
It may be the most important work we do, in this unprecedented moment of creation, as the old dies away and the new emerges from the fog of uncertainty. As we continue to navigate the chaos of these volatile times, take heart. Remember that each of us is an unbelievably powerful, wondrously magical meeting point for past and future ancestors, here to hold our own center, grounded in our most authentic truth, as we birth the New Earth, together in Love.
