The Moon Is Not Just Female

Daniel Giamario’s Ramblings, Reflections and Ruminations | August 26, 2026 |

I have just returned from Spain where our group had an outstanding eclipse experience. I also had the opportunity to teach TOTAMS Course 03 Relationships & Inner Wholeness. On our final night together, we were blessed to have the 7th gate of Venus’ Pisces synodic Overstory ascending evening star phase beautifully visible. In addition, it was the night of her greatest evening elongation. Thus, an even greater magic happened a few hours later … something I knew was possible but had never seen.

In this context, three themes need to be woven together:

  • 1) Course 03 and the Inner Sacred Marriage Process
  • 2) The Total Solar Eclipse
  • 3) The Moon is NOT only Female

The Inner Sacred Marriage Process

In our Course 03 we teach how to merge Venus and Mars, adding the archetype of a person’s Descendant. This helps create Inner Wholeness. The process can then be a foundation for aligning with your relationship and partnership intent. It also can be the foundation for a sovereign autonomous life without primary relationship.

The Total Solar Eclipse

The Moon aligns with the Sun when with the axis of the Lunar Nodes. This past Solar Eclipse was on the Aquarius-Leo Axis, an axis of sovereignty, autonomy, and radiant radical Self-Love, expressing the joy of being Creator for its own sake. As with the April 2024 total Solar Eclipse, our group experienced the Corona and Plasma as an emanation of Pure Love!

But what are the Sun and Moon anyway?

The Moon – Not Only Female; The Sun – Not Only Male

A key insight that has animated my approach since 1970 is that the Moon is not a Feminine archetype, but rather the primary symbol of a person’s lineage, who they were before, what they explored before, and the jumping-off point into the current life.

Several chapters of my second book Origins of the Shamanic Astrology Paradigm explore this topic. An extensive list of countries and cultures actually perceived the Moon as masculine and the Sun as feminine. For example, the word “Sun” comes from the Norse Sunna, a Goddess, and the word “Moon” comes from the Anglo-Saxon Mona, a God. The well-known Thoth, is a Moon God. However, I am not suggesting the assumed meanings we use today just be reversed. Rather, what I am suggesting is that the Moon and Sun contain both Gods and Goddesses.

As explained in my book, the author René Malamoud posed that our contemporary assumption of the Moon being feminine and the Sun masculine are psychic projections based on the Romance languages, the polarity between Luna and Sol. Biological and sociological realities are not involved. Languages with gender grammar colour how we think and what we project.

In my aforementioned book, the artist Roy Purcell created a rendition of the Moon God in the Callanish III stone circle, a greenish crescent moon shaped standing stone in the court of the Triple Goddess.

He also painted the crescent Moon entering the Earth Mother. But I had never seen this or had photographs of the actual occurrence. Now we do! Several hours after the Moon-Venus conjunction, a number of us witnessed the Moon God slowly enter Earth Mother Gaia’s body. Appropriately, as he entered her, the Moon was in the Priestess constellation, close to Porrima, Zaniah and Vindemiatrix. Our newly foundationally certified graduate Kathy Medbery took these photos:

This might give you a better understanding how and why ancient sky watchers potentially also imagined the Moon as being masculine! In our school, designating the Moon as lineage – with a multitude of possible Gods and Goddesses, masculine and feminine archetypes, appropriate to the essential nature of the sign of the Moon – vastly expands our understanding and experience of the Moon.

The August 27/28 Near Total Lunar Eclipse

The Americas, Africa, and much of Europe will experience a near total lunar eclipse on Thursday night through Friday morning. The Moon, at 4Pisces54, is near Royal Star Fomalhaut, and the Sun, at 4Virgo54, near Royal Star Regulus. The water streams of the Water Bearer Constellation (or is it plasma?) will be flowing onto and around the Moon.

This North Node eclipse completes the second eclipse season of 2026. In your observances and ceremonies with this eclipse, be open to experiencing the Moon and Sun in new and expanded ways. Take time to question your assumptions about the Sun and Moon, as well as of eclipses.

Our event in Spain offered up a trifecta!

  1.  the psychological and ceremonial Inner Sacred Marriage process in the group.
  2. the Total Solar Eclipse Sun-Moon syzygy.
  3. the Moon God entering the Earth Mother as the 7th chakra Venus gate opened!

We are so very grateful!
